Linsey Honeycutt exploded for 33 points, 18 rebounds and seven steals to lead Ferndale’s girls’ basketball team to a 72-63 overtime win over Mount Baker on Thursday, Dec. 4, at Mount Baker.
Abby Reid added 15 points and eight assists for the Golden Eagles.
“I think the biggest key was Gabrielle Edison with four points and 10 rebounds,” Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said in a phone interview. “She got her four points in overtime and that was big.”
Emily Yost led the Mountaineers with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Emily Brandland added 16 points, but fouled out on a controversial call late in the game, Mount Baker coach Brenda Ellis said.
“Our girls were pretty encouraged because we think Ferndale is pretty tough,” Ellis said in a phone interview. “This was our second overtime game in three days.”
Kylee Engholm added 12 for Baker, and Brittney Coll had 10. Engholm also contributed a team-high four assists.
“Kylee had a really good game at point,” Ellis added. “She ran things well and she is learning to make good decisions. Ferndale applied pressure and she did a really good job with that.”
Carly Bannerman added 10 points for the Golden Eagles.
Ferndale plays next at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Blaine. Mount Baker takes on Port Townsend at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at home.
