Ferndale’s girls’ basketball team jumped out to a nine-point lead in the first quarter and held on to defeat Burlington-Edison on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Burlington-Edison.
The Golden Eagles were led by Lindsey Honeycutt’s 25 points and nine rebounds, both team-highs. Abby Reid added 12 points and three assists, and Darrien Camarillo had seven points.
“Lindsey had 10 in the first quarter to set the pace,” Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said in a phone interview. “We just got the ball into the post and she finished, that was huge in the first. She played consistent all the way.”
Ferndale’s defensive pressure was also key in the win, as it forced 24 turnovers. Carly Bannerman had five steals to lead the defense.
The Golden Eagles are in action again at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, at Mount Baker.
