Mount Baker’s softball team had the hot bats as it ended the regular season on a high note with a 16-0 win in four innings over Meridian on Wednesday, May 13, at Mount Baker in a Northwest Conference game.
Aleks Toivola got the win in the circle with six strikeouts, improving her record to 14-4. She was also 3 for 3 at the plate, with a triple and four RBI.
“We just came out and did a good job at the plate,” Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. “We waited for good pitches to put it in play and capitalized on some errors. Meridian did a good job putting the ball in play. They came out swinging, but we made some plays.”
Meridian was led by Bailey Haugen, who was 2 for 2. Madeline Gray was the other Trojan to get a hit, going 1 for 2. Meridian committed six errors.
The Mountaineers finish with the No. 1 seed in the conference and the Trojans take the fourth seed. The two conference rivals will face off in the first round of the Class 1A Bi-District Tournament at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at Janicki Fields. Second-round games may begin 30 minutes after the end of the first round games.
