Mount Baker’s softball team defeated Squalicum 21-0 and 20-1 in a doubleheader on Monday, May 11, at Squalicum High School.
Aleks Toivola earned the win in both games for Mount Baker. Dakota Littlefield and Anna Wilson received losses for the Storm.
In the first game, Toivola went 3 for 4 with a home run, two doubles and four RBI and Emily Yost went 4 for 5 with three doubles and three RBI to lead the Mountaineers at the plate. Squalicum’s Kaeli Andersen went 1 for 2 and Makayla Poirier went 1 for 1 with a double.
In the second game, Lacey Postlewait went 2 for 3 with two RBI and two stolen bases, Tara Chambers went 3 for 3 with two doubles and Akemi Schwinden went 2 for 3 with a double and a triple for Mount Baker. Jessie Alvord went 1 for 2 with a triple and a run and Kaeli Andersen went 1 for 2 with a double.
“We came out and hit the ball well. Combine that with some walks and errors, we put some big innings together,” Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. “I was pleased we played good defense and stayed focused throughout the two games.”
Mount Baker will take on Meridian next at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at home. Squalicum will play Lynden next at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at home.
