Mount Baker’s softball team sealed the Northwest Conference’s No. 1 seed in the Class 1A District Tournament with a 10-0 win in six innings over rival Nooksack Valley on Friday, May 8, in Everson.
The Mountaineers pushed four across in the first, added three more runs in the third and Aleks Toivola pitched a tremendous game for her 11th win of the season.
“I was pretty pleased,” Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. “It was a really good team effort. We got bunts down. Everyone did what they were asked to do, and we played great defense. No errors. Anytime we beat Nooksack Valley it’s a good win.”
Toivola, who helped limit the Pioneers to five hits, went 2 for 4 at the plate with an RBI. Kaylea Sleveland was 2 for 4 with two doubles and Madie Gates was 2 for 3 with an RBI in a game Lepper said every girl in his starting lineup logged a hit.
Nooksack Valley’s Alexis Pike went 2 for 3. Olivia Berkan took the loss.
