Lynden’s softball team wasn’t about to let its undefeated conference record get blemished by Burlington-Edison, as the Lions battled to a 2-1 Northwest Conference win on Friday, May 1, at Lynden High School.
After a two-out base hit scored a Lynden (14-1, 8-0 NWC) runner in the fifth inning, the Tigers (9-7, 5-4) responded with a run in the top of the sixth.
In the bottom of the sixth, Hannah Rothwell got a leadoff single and a fielder’s choice, passed ball and infield play got her across the plate.
Tanna Benson threw seven innings, striking out seven for her ninth win.
“She was just really good about being tough,” Lynden coach Steve Petersen said in a phone interview. “In the first inning they had runners on second and third with no outs and she kept them off the board.”
Lynden will look to stay perfect in the NWC against Nooksack Valley on Tuesday, May 5, at home.
