Nooksack Valley’s baseball team scored 12 runs in the first inning to take a 17-3 Northwest Conference win in four innings over Mount Baker on Thursday, April 30, at Nooksack Valley.
Cole Mattice led the Pioneers by going 2 for 3 with a run and five RBI. Taylor Gardner was 3 for 4 with three runs and three RBI, and Curtis Handy went 2 for 3 with three RBI.
“They’re a young team and we just exploded in the first inning,” Nooksack Valley coach Scott Gelwicks said in a phone interview. “It was pretty much over from there. They have kids who are improving and getting better. They kept playing hard, so they have a lot to look forward to.”
Colton Ranson was 1 for 3 with a pair of RBI for the Mountaineers, and Greg Day went 1 for 2 with an RBI.
Nooksack Valley plays next at 4 p.m. Monday, May 4, at Anacortes. Mount Baker plays at 6 p.m. Monday, May 4, at Joe Martin Stadium against Squalicum.
