Bellingham’s baseball team rallied for five runs in the final two innings to notch a 7-2 Northwest Conference win over Meridian on Thursday, April 30, at Meridian.
Austin Shenton was 3 for 4 with a three-RBI double in the seventh to lead the Red Raiders.
Devyn Holmes was the big hitter for Meridian, going 2 for 2, but he suffered the loss on the mound.
“Dalton Biehle started the game well and then really struggled after he had their number early,” Meridian coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview. “He gave up two in the third and we tied it up in the bottom of the fifth before they answered with two in the sixth and three in the seventh. They just stacked hits together when they needed to.”
Meridian holds the No. 1 Class 1A seed from the NWC, but needs one more win to lock it up. The Trojans take on Blaine at 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 4, at Pipeline Fields. Bellingham holds the fourth of five NWC spots in the 2A district playoffs, and finishes the season at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 4, at Joe Martin Stadium against Lynden Christian.
