Josh Heutink hit a walk-off sacrifice fly for Lynden Christian’s baseball team as it beat Mount Baker 7-6 in nine innings of Northwest Conference action on Tuesday, April 28, at Lynden Christian.
Heutink also had a crucial triple in the fifth to pull the Lyncs back even with the Mountaineers.
“We had a very difficult fifth when we gave up four unearned runs,” Lynden Christian coach Desi Luna said in a phone interview. “I was proud that the guys came back and scored three in the bottom of the inning. Alex (VanderVelden) and Josh (Heutink) went back-to-back with triples to get three runs back.”
Heutink also earned the win, taking over in relief of VanderVelden, the starter.
Mount Baker’s Colton Ranson took the loss on the mound, but was 2 for 5 at the plate. Greg Day was also 2 for 4 for the Mounties.
Both teams combined for nine errors.
Lynden Christian plays next at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Janicki Fields against Sedro-Woolley. Mount Baker plays at 4:30 p.m. the same day, at Nooksack Valley.
