Mount Baker’s baseball team suffered a 16-0 five-inning loss to Burlington-Edison in a Northwest Conference game on Tuesday, April 14, at Mount Baker.
Colton Zender was 1 for 2 and Ruvim Tikhonov was 1 for 1 for the Mountaineers’ only two hits. The Tigers exploded for 13 hits in the contest.
“Our pitchers struggled to consistently find the zone, and when we did they did a good job of hitting,” Mount Baker coach Derek Johnson said in a phone interview. “They had four extra-base hits, so they got guys on and moved them around the bases quickly.”
Mount Baker’s defense was on point, committing just one error in the loss.
Never miss a local story.
“We had guys in the right position to make plays,” Johnson said. “There were a couple of diving plays that didn’t quite get there, but the effort was positive.”
Mount Baker gets a chance to practice before it is in action at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at La Conner.
