A five-run fifth inning gave the Blaine baseball team an 11-0 Northwest Conference win in five innings over Lynden Christian on Tuesday, April 7, at Lynden Christian.
Jalen Kortlever led the Borderites at the dish, going 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI, two doubles and two runs. Cody Gobbato earned the win on the hill for Blaine, a day after he had a clutch save.
“Cody threw strikes. They put the ball in play, we just made the plays,” Blaine coach Larry Hoffman said in a phone interview. “It’s hard to fault what (Lynden Christian) is doing with all the young guys they have. Some of their guys impressed me, they played the right way.”
Lynden Christian starter Ty VanDyken took the loss, but impressed Hoffman. Josh Heutink also stood out when he hit a hard line drive in the first inning, which Hoffman said was hit hard, but caught. Alex VanderVelden had the Lyncs’ hit in the game.
Jared Vogee was also 1 for 2 with a pair of RBI, and Josh Fakemma went 1 for 3 with two RBI for Blaine. Anthony Ball went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
