Blaine’s baseball team held off Burlington-Edison to hand the Tigers their first league loss of the season 5-2 on Monday, April 6, at Pipeline Fields.
Jared Vogee led the Borderites, going 1 for 3 with a run, two RBI and a double. Jonathan Starcer earned the win with five innings of work on the mound, and Cody Gobbato finished the game for his third save of the year.
“The kids battled hard today. They hit Burlington hard,” Blaine coach Larry Hoffman said in a phone interview. “In the past a 1-0 deficit would have been a kiss of death for us. The defense played good and there was just a solid effort all around today. Six hits isn’t too much, but we scratched and clawed our way to five runs.”
Anthony Ball was also 2 for 4 with an RBI and double, and Josh Fakkema went 1 for 2 with an RBI double for Blaine.
The Borderites take on Lynden Christian at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, at LC.
