Sehome’s Tori McDowell ignited her team’s offense with a second-inning grand slam, as the Mariners went on to earn a 11-1 non-conference win over Cascade (Everett) in five innings Thursday, March 26, at Frank Geri Fields.
“We started off a little sluggish,” Sehome coach Jim Emerson said in a phone interview. “Second inning we had the bases loaded with nobody out and then all of a sudden we had the bases loaded with two outs, and Tori with a 3-2 count hit a ball over the left-center-field wall.”
Sehome scored seven runs in the third inning on five hits to put the game out of reach.
Sam Hruby went 2 for 3 with two runs, Morgan Henry was 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI and McDowell’s one hit came on the big grand slam. Freshman pitcher Carissa McDowell earned her first career win in the circle.
