Cienna Semsak and Jillian Anderson improved by a combined 10 shots from day-one action to day two at the Class 3A District 1 Girls’ Golf Tournament on Wednesday, May 20, at Kayak Point Golf Course.
The Ferndale girls’ golf duo qualified for the Class 3A Girls’ Golf State Tournament, held May 27-28, at Horn Rapids Golf Course in Richland. Semsak took sixth with a 192 two-day total, and Anderson finished in a three-way tie for seventh with a 194.
Semsak shot a 98 the first day and improved four shots for a second-day 94. Anderson shot a 100 the first day, but improved six shots for a 94 the second day. The top 19 overall qualified for state.
“They stayed calm, cool and collected,” Ferndale coach Margie Hovde said in a phone interview. “Cienna has really come into her game and is calm with her game. She’s been an emotional golfer in the past, and she still has that, but reigned it in and used it to benefit her. They had good groups to play with and were having fun.”
Never miss a local story.
Ferndale also had Maeson Mullins and Shelbi McCauley competing on day two. Mullins stayed consistent with a 108 both days for a 216 total, but McCauley improved 11 shots to go from a 111 first-day score to a 100 on the second day. There was a tie for 19th at 205, making Mullins and McCauley just miss out on a state trip.
The medalist for the tournament was Meadowdale’s Anna Maria Beall, who shot a 98 the first day, but came back for an 83 the second day to total 181.
