Orianna LoCicero won a close, three-set match to lead the Bellingham girls’ tennis team to a 6-1 team win over Squalicum on Monday, May 4, at Squalicum.
LoCicero dropped the first set 7-5 to the Storm’s Sarah Byron, but came back to win the second set 6-2. The third set was close again, with LoCicero coming out on top 7-5.
“It was a great match to watch, back and forth all the way,” Squalicum coach Joe O’Brien said in a phone interview. “We had a lead going into the third set, but they had some good points.”
Squalicum’s win came from the undefeated duo of Kim and Rachel Dorr. They rallied back from a 6-3 loss in the first set with consecutive 6-3 wins of their own.
“I was very pleased with everyone’s effort, especially Kim and Rachel Dorr,” O’Brien said. “They had a great match, I’m very pleased with how they’re playing.”
Squalicum has a make-up match at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at home against Anacortes. Bellingham is done for the regular season.
