Meridian’s girls’ track and field team took first place at the Lynden Christian Invite on Thursday, April 30, at Lynden Christian High School.
Janessa Murphy, Mackenzie Cox and Ryley Zapien won events for the Trojans. Murphy ran a winning time of 26.48 seconds in the 200, Cox a winning time of 1:07.08 (400) and Zapien had a winning mark of 31 feet, 2.5 inches in the triple jump.
Meridian’s 4x200 relay team of Payton Lunde, Cox, Ellesse FitzGerald and Katelyne Zucati also ran a winning time of 1:51.80.
Lynden Christian took second at the invite. Led by Hannah Rusnak, who won four events for the Lyncs. Rusnak won the 100 (12.66), the 100 hurdles (15.09), ran the second leg of the winning 4x100 relay (50.5) and won the long jump (17-04.5).
Mount Baker’s Natalie Smith won the 800 (2:29.64), the 1,600 (5:27.54) and the 3,200 (12:35) to lead Mount Baker to a third place finish.
Haley VanderHeiden won the shot put (34-11) and the discus (100-09) in Nooksack Valley’s fourth place finish.
