Meridian’s Nick Miller swept the sprinting events, and the Trojans nearly won all individual boys’ track events at a boy’s track and field meet on Thursday, April 30, at Lynden Christian.
Miller led Meridian to a first place finish with 199 team points. Lynden Christian was second with 121, Lummi and Mount Baker tied for third at 50 each, Nooksack Valley was fifth with 48 and Friday Harbor was sixth with 26 points.
Miller posted times of 11.46 seconds in the 100, 23.01 in the 200 and 52.10 in the 400. His teammate Collin Magnusson won the 800 with a 1:59.46 and the 3,200 with a 10:35.02. Fellow Trojans Isaiah Thompson (15.82) and Marcus McGuinn (42.60) won the 110 and 300 hurdles, respectively.
The spoiler of the Meridian sweep was Lummi’s Enrique Medina, who won the 1,600 with a 4:33.93. His teammate Trazil Lane took the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 10 inches.
Lynden Christian won the 4x100 (45.59) and 4x400 (3:34.17). Sam Vander Griend and Nathan Rusnak were members of both winning relay teams.
Nooksack Valley’s Connor Beard won the long jump with a 19-11.25 and Colton Kautz won the shot put with a 42-09.00. Mount Baker had no winners, but Jesse Phan was second in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200 behind teammate Jeremiah Cronk.
