Ferndale’s girls’ tennis team won three out of four singles matches in its 4-3 victory against Blaine on Wednesday, April 29, at Blaine High School.
The Borderites’ Saskia Dolk defeated Ferndale’s Gloriana Swanson 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match. The Golden Eagles’ Trina Byers defeated Chloe Foster 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 2 singles.
Ferndale’s Carly Bannerman and Shelby Slaughter defeated Mandy Hayes and Emily Rowe 6-2, 6-2. Blaine’s Gretchen Kordas and Caitlyn Sharp defeated Sofia Chahine and Hailey Schulz in a come-from-behind score of 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
“They played really well in a comeback,” Blaine coach John Freal said in a phone interview. “They told me after the first set they were going to win it.”
Ferndale will take on Anacortes next at 3:45 p.m. Friday, May 1, at home. Blaine will play Lynden next at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 1, at home.
