Sehome won all four singles matches in its 5-2 win over Bellingham on Wednesday, April 29, at Bellingham High School.
Led Sehome’s by Lauren Smith, who defeated Ruby Parker 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match. Andrea Clawson defeated Katie Kales 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles. Ali Morrow defeated Anna Crowley 6-0, 6-0 and Sidney Balfour defeated Marle Knowles 6-1, 6-1.
“Sehome’s lineup has too many good spots,” Chronister said. “They’ve got too many good players for us to win four (matches).”
In the attempt to load up the doubles matches against Sehome, Bellingham had a couple players who played their first singles match.
Red Raiders Ellie Iwersen and Mariah Miller defeated Andrea Zucchi and Natalie Knops 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 in No. 1 doubles.
“We loaded up in doubles a bit to see if we could make some noise and we did,” Bellingham coach Steve Chronister said in a phone interview.
Olivia Bjorklund and Oriana LoCicero defeated Mia Zucchi and Hailey Holland in No. 3 doubles for Bellingham.
“First doubles was a great match. It was a really close back-and-forth match with a lot of quality play,” he said.
Mariners Simone Hall and Taylor Harris defeated Sophia Lawrence and Alice Hiebert 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 2 doubles match.
Bellingham will play Burlington-Edison next at 3:45 p.m. Friday, May 1, on the road. Sehome will take on Lynden next at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at home.
