Bellingham’s girls’ tennis team swept the doubles matches against Anacortes in its 5-2 victory on Wednesday, April 15, in a continuation of a match that started March 23, at Anacortes High School.
The Red Raiders’ Sophia Lawrence and Alice Hiebert won the first doubles in two straight sets. Anna Crowley and Marle Knowles won their match in two straight sets as well, but came out much stronger, Bellingham coach Steve Chronister said in a phone interview.
“I liked how they upgraded in the second set,” he said. “They came out better and I was happy to see that. When kids can make adjustements, that’s really good.”
Oriana LoCicero stood out to Chronister for Bellingham’s singles matches. LoCicero won her match by a score of 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Never miss a local story.
“I thought Oriana had a great comeback. She was down 6-2, 1-0 at the break due to rain, turned it around and won the next two sets,” Chronister said.
Bellingham will take on Sedro-Woolley next at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, on the road.
