Sehome’s Emily Pittis and Squalicum’s Julia Sluys each won two individual events in a meet girls’ track and field meet with between Sehome, Squalicum and Bellingham on Thursday, March 19, at Civic Stadium.
Pittis won the 1,600 for Sehome with a time of 5 minutes, 16.2 seconds, and took the 3,200 with a 12:27.8.
“We had a bunch of kids try events for the first time,” Sehome coach Kevin Ryan said in a phone interview. “The kids really wanted to win the city meet.”
Sluys won the discus with a 66-foot, 1-inch throw, and took first in the shot put with a 27-07.50 put.

Bellingham’s Mia Hodges and Hattie North each won an individual event and the duo was half of the winning 4x400 relay team. Hodges ran a 1:01.64 to take the 400 and North was first in the 300 hurdles with a 50.24. The 4x400 winning time was a 4:20.78 from a team that also included Emma Brice and Hannah Bradley.
Bellingham’s next meet is Wednesday, March 25, at Lynden Christian, and Squalicum is at Blaine the same day. Sehome hosts a meet with Anacortes, Ferndale and Nooksack Valley at the same time at Civic Stadium.
