Sehome’s gymnastics team took second place overall as the Bellingham schools qualified nine gymnasts for state at the Northwest District Championship on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Mountlake Terrace.
Erin Eiswald took first in the vault (8.325), first in the bars (6.8), fourth in balance beam (7.6), fifth in floor (7.65) and second in all-around (7.85) for Sehome. She was the only Whatcom County gymnast to qualify in the all around.
“Erin is a freshman, she came in new and has shown her strength, and she really has been a good team player to support the rest of the team,” said Doriane Gunnels, gymnastics coach for the trio of Bellingham schools.
Other state qualifiers were Cat Fitzpatrick from Sehome in vault, Cat Gibbons from Sehome in bars, Rachel Cornwell from Bellingham in bars, Sage Stevenson from Bellingham in bars, Shae Walker from Sehome in balance beam, Ilona Iff from Bellingham in balance beam, Sienna Takabe from Squalicum in balance beam and Maddie Dominco from Bellingham in floor.
