Squalicum’s boys’ tennis team neared a perfect score only to lose at No. 3 doubles in a 6-1 Northwest Conference win over Lynden on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Lynden High School.
In the only match that went three sets, a Lions team of Tore Olson and Carson Smith, which Lynden coach Trey Ballard says he threw into doubles, topped Zac Gosda and Ethan Slayes 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.
“I thought Squalicum played really well today. They took it to us,” Ballard said in a phone interview. “I didn’t think we played as bad as the scores showed.”
Lynden is scheduled to play in Anacortes on Wednesday, Oct. 15, but Ballard thinks the weather likely won’t hold out long enough to play. Squalicum plays in the 2A Northwest Conference district tournament on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Western Washington University and Sehome High School.
