Bellingham’s boys’ tennis team squeaked out a Northwest Conference win over Ferndale (5-7, 5-7 NWC) on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Bellingham High School. The Red Raiders clinched the conference title with the win.
“I’m really proud of our guys. They’ve competed really well this year,” Bellingham (14-1, 12-0 NWC) coach Steve Chronister said in a phone interview. “We played our seventh match in seven school days. So half our season came in that stretch, and that’s what did it for us. ... It’s quite a journey, but a successful one.”
Connor Thompson sealed Wednesday’s win by coming from behind to top Max Jeffery 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
“It took determination, toughness, both kids were playing real well,” Chronister said. “Ferndale played a great match. They gave us everything.”
