Sehome’s girls’ cross country team was just three points away from a perfect score as it won a Northwest Conference meet on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Northern State.
The Mariners had 18 points, followed by Sedro-Woolley at 57 and Ferndale at 61.
Emily Pittis led the way for Sehome, taking first with a time of 19 minutes, 49 seconds on the 5k course. Jillian Anderson led the Golden Eagles’ runners with a 21:11.
“The girls followed the race plan,” Sehome coach Kevin Ryan said in a phone interview. “The goal was to get a few of them to pull each other along.”
Ellie Rowan-Arnett was the Mariners’ second runner at 20:35, followed by Abby Johnson and Maya Smith, who tied with a time of 20:37. Ferndale’s second runner was Angie Rooth in 21:20, with Jana Peterson taking third in 22:08.
Sehome races next at the Twilight Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Cedarcrest Golf Course. Ferndale is scheduled to participate in the Sunfair Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Franklin Park, in Yakima.
