Sehome’s boys’ cross country team rolled to a win with 19 points at a Northwest Conference meet against Ferndale and Sedro-Woolley on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Northern State.
Ferndale was second with 48 points, and Sedro-Woolley was third with 76 points.
Kirby Overman paced the race for the Mariners, finishing first with a time of 16 mintues, 47 seconds at the 5k course. Roberto Aguilera of Ferndale was second with a 16:53.
“We tried a couple things. We worked on a fast start and pushing portions of the course,” Sehome coach Kevin Ryan said in a phone interview. “Kirby was able to pull away at the end. He was practicing his tempo and a fast start.”
Sam Gilman was Sehome’s second runner at 17:09, and Ben Stalheim came in in 17:23. Arthur Rankin was second for the Golden Eagles at 18:16, followed by Cole Bergquist at 18:48.
Sehome’s next race is the Twilight Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Cedarcrest Golf Course. Ferndale will run in the Sunfair Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Franklin Park, in Yakima.
