The final doubles match between Squalicum’s Ethan Sayler and Liam Brownlie and Lynden’ Austin Fullner and Ty Hoekstra went down to a decisive third set, the Storm pairing coming out with the win, ensuring a 4-3 Northwest Conference boys’ tennis victory over the Lions on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
“It was pretty exciting,” Squalicum coach Joe O’Brien said in a phone interview. “Liam was serving really well today. He held his serve throughout and was dominant in the last couple sets.”
Squalicum and Lynden split the singles matches, with Drew Segren and Kevin Smiley continuing their strong play for the Storm, and Carson Smith and Seth Weidenaar tossing in impressive performances for the Lions.
Squalicum (5-1 overall, NWC 5-1) is back in action against Ferndale on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Lynden (3-3, 3-3) also play Wednesday, hosting Bellingham.
