Lynden Christian kept Ferndale at bay in a 25-16, 24-26, 25-17, 25-21 win in a Northwest Conference volleyball match Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Lynden Christian.
Kara Bajema led the Lyncs with 26 kills, her personal best for Lynden Christian, and 13 digs. Hannah Rusnak added three aces and 13 kills, and Emily Veening had 27 digs.
Ferndale was led by Whitney Walker’s five aces and nine kills, and Taryn Potter added 10 kills.
“Ferndale played really tough. Whitney had those five aces, but it could have been more,” Lynden Christian coach Kim Grycel said in a phone interview. “She has a tough jump serve that got our serve-receive off balance and made it hard to get our offense going. In that second game we made a lot of errors, but I was proud of the way they bounced back.”
Bajema had the majority of her kills in the final two sets, and Morgan Van Kooten added five kills over the final two frames to help finish off the Golden Eagles.
Lynden Christian takes on rival Lynden at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at Lynden High School. Ferndale will look to bounce back at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, when it hosts Bellingham.
