The Bellingham boys’ tennis team didn’t drop a single point in singles play as the Red Raiders took a 6-1 win over Ferndale on Monday, Sept. 22, at Ferndale.
Conner Thompson, Charlie Carmichael, Austin Shenton and Henry Ziels all scored 6-0, 6-0 wins over their Golden Eagles opponents in singles matchups.
In doubles, Logan Schilder and Nate Pearsall earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Maxwell Jeffery and Lake Sullivan for the Red Raiders. Bellingham’s Chris Nakatani and Zach Nolan also defeated Tate Freeman and Colton Young in a long 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 match.
Ferndale’s Kevin Rietveld and Jacob Sorenson improved in each set to get a 0-6, 7-5, 6-0 win over Lucas Irwin and Garrett Walker.
“I just put the team together today and each set they played stronger,” Ferndale coach Rudy Vendiola said in a phone interview. “They played with more confidence and I expect good things from that doubles combination. Tate and Colton in a losing effort had a match that lasted the same amount of time, though. They had a lot of good rallies and competed well.”
Ferndale’s next match is at 3:30 p.m Wednesday, Sept. 24, at home against Sehome. Bellingham takes on Squalicum at 3:30 p.m Wednesday, Sept. 24, at home.
