Sehome swept singles’ play, including 6-0, 6-0 wins in the first two singles’ matchups, to defeat the Lynden’s boys’ tennis team 6-1 Monday, Sept. 22, at Lynden.
Carson Smith looked to reverse Lynden’s luck in singles matches with a second-set comeback, but Sehome’s Reece Gilbert was able to hold him off for a 6-0, 7-5 win.
Lynden’s Dakota Davis and Ben Mulder turned in an inspired match in the No. 1 doubles match. They defeated the Mariners’ Aaron Goldfogel and William Zhang 6-2, 6-2 to ensure the Lions weren’t shut out.
“(Davis and Mulder) came out motived to play Sehome,” Lynden coach Trey Ballard said in a phone interview. “They played pretty darn good to beat them. Goldfogel and Zhang are a good team, and they’ll be around for awhile.”
Lynden’s next matchup is at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at home against Burlington-Edison in a make-up from last week. Sehome takes on Squalicum at 3:30 p.m Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Squalicum.
