Bellingham’s boys’ cross country team barely beat out Nooksack Valley and Mount Baker on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Lake Padden Park. The Red Raiders finished with 37 points, the Pioneers finished with 40 and Mount Baker ended with 48.
Bellingham’s Cade Brown, who is only a freshman, won the boys’ race by running a 14:07.1, only 14 second faster than Baker’s Jesse Phan. Finishing third was Lummi’s Enrique Medina, followed by Nooksack’s Conner Jones, Jordan Hern and Zach Harvey.
Nooksack had three runners in the top six, while Lummi, Baker and Bellingham had the other three.
Rounding out Bellingham’s top five was Jackson Zerba, Nicholas Leishman, Ty Veldhuisen and Ming Yin.
To go with Jones, Hern and Harvey, Nooksack had Valentin Villalobos and Elijah Rohde score in the top five.
Baker’s top five included Mitchell Pelzer, Keenan Gray, Caleb Forbes and Casey McHugh.
