Outlook: Richins has plenty of reasons to be excited about this year’s Lynden boys’ cross country team. For one, the Lions have 16 runners out, which is 10 more than the team had a year ago. Also, while the group is young overall, Richins has talent to work with. “We are a young team, but it’s really exciting,” Richins said in a phone interview. “Some of the growth we are getting from them, and they are hard workers. It’s a lot of fun.” Sophomore Heeringa and freshman Perry are the Lions’ top two runners, and freshman Crabtree could be another key contributor. The Lions have some age, too. Seniors Hanson, Witecki and Aiden McCaig give Lynden invaluable experience. “The goal is to improve ourselves and try to do a little more than we think we could,” Richins said. “I’m already seeing some improvement over last year in performance.”
