The Squalicum volleyball team was on its heels for the first two sets of its Thursday, Sept. 11, match at home against La Conner, but the Storm did score one big set win in a 25-12, 25-11, 28-30, 25-18 loss.
Storm seniors Haley Minninger, Hannah Loy and Kate Alvord impressed coach Laurie Quigley with their resiliency in the loss.
“I thought my senior core played well, but we’re still growing and figuring out our chemistry,” Quigley said in a phone interview. “They just battled the whole time. We moved some people around and tried a new lineup, so they’re working hard everyday, and that was what impressed me. The third set showed what they’re capable of and what level they can play at.”
Squalicum will attend the Lynden Tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Lynden High School. Quigley said the team will treat it as one big practice and hope to steadily improve.
Never miss a local story.
“I want to get experience for everyone on our team and run through some different lineups,” she said. “We’ll try to get a feel for what we’ll look like for the year.”
