MOUNT VERNON BULLDOGS
Coach: Torey Swanson
Last year: 18-8 (10-3 NWC), ad-vanced to Class 3A state tournament, but did not place.
Players to watch: Michael Caswell (Sr., G), Eric Jensen (Sr., P), Toar-rance Baylis (Sr., F)
Outlook: The Bulldogs lost their top scorer from last year in Jeremy Juarez (19.6 points per game), but Caswell is back, along with his 15.2 points per game from last season. He will continue to be a threat from the outside on what Swanson termed a good-shooting team. Mount Vernon will be senior heavy, with eight on this year’s roster, none bigger than the 6-foot-6 Jensen, who could be a force inside. Jensen finished third in scoring last year with 7.6 points per game. Right behind him was Baylis with 6.5 and Ray Walser with 5.4. With their success last year and the Bulldogs’ playoff experience in football this fall, Mount Vernon is looking for even bigger things this winter. Swanson said his team has good chemistry and a bench that can go eight or nine deep. The Bulldogs should be good defensively because of their athleticism, and they could battle for the Northwest Conference title and may run deep into the state playoffs.
