The Western Washington University men’s basketball team has been selected the Great Northwest Athletic Conference preseason favorite by league coaches.
The Vikings, led by fourth-year coach Tony Dominguez, return nine letterwinners and four starters from last year’s 20-11 team that reached the GNAC Tournament title game.
“We are extremely excited about the energy and the fight in this team as we head into the season,” Dominguez said in a press release. “We have a big challenge ahead of us, but this team has fight and they have not backed down from anything we’ve challenged them with so far. We’re ready to get the season started.”
Western earned five of 11 first-place votes, finishing ahead of defending regular season champs Western Oregon.
Headlining WWU’s returners are Jeffrey Parker (15.6 points per game), Ricardo Maxwell (15.0 ppg) and Mac Johnson (8.7 ppg).
