The Western Washington University men were ranked sixth and the women 12th in the first United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Top 25 Polls announced Tuesday, March 17.
The placing is the highest for the Viking men and the second-best for the WWU women since the polls began in 2010.
WWU’s Katie Reichert is the national leader in the women’s javelin with an automatic national qualifying throw of 159-2. That is over 10 feet better than the next best mark.
The Vikings’ Slater Hirst and John Haskin are seventh and eighth, respectively, in the men’s javelin with provisional national qualifying marks of 205-0 and 201-0.
