Western Washington University scored just one run as it was swept 5-0 and 2-1 by Saint Martin’s University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball doubleheader on Friday, March 13, at the SMU Softball Field.
The Saints’ Lindsey Miller (4-2) pitched a complete-game, six-hit victory in the nightcap and Sam Munger (10-3) pitched the shutout in the opener for SMU as WWU failed to score a run for the first time this season, managing just four hits.
In the nightcap, Jordan Walley drove in WWU’s only run of the afternoon with a two-out single to right field to tie the game but in the bottom of the seventh, Jackie Schmaeling drove in the winning run with a two-out, walk-off single.
Benson had two of the Vikings’ six hits in the second game. In the opener, two of the Vikings’ hits were by Allie Crowe.
Never miss a local story.
WWU pitcher Makinlee Sellevold (8-4) was the tough-luck loser in both games as she had a six-game winning streak snapped.
