Western Washington University libero Samantha Hutchinson was named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II West Region All-Star First Team announced Thursday, Nov. 20.
Hutchinson, a senior from University Place, was one of only two first-team repeaters. She was a second-team pick in 2012.
Hutchinson is the NCAA Division II national statistical leader in digs per set, averaging 7.23 per set, and is second in total digs with 745. Her average is almost a full set per dig better than her closest rival.
Hutchinson ranks second among WWU and Great Northwest Athletic Conference leaders in career digs with 2,416 (6.62 avg. per set), trailing only former Viking Courtney Schneider (2004-07) at 2,695.
Never miss a local story.
Earlier this week, Hutchinson was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the third straight season.
Hutchinson was a first-team American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American last year. She ranked second nationally in digs per set as a junior and fifth as a sophomore.
