Western Washington University’s Kristen Hansen tied for seventh in medalist play and the Vikings placed seventh among 12 teams at the Golfweek DII Fall Women’s Golf Invitational, which ended Sunday, Oct. 5, on the Meadows Golf Course at the Sunriver Resort.
WWU, third after two rounds Saturday, shot 302 to finish with a 54-hole total of 902.
Arkansas Tech took the team title at 873, finishing with the tourney’s best round of 285. Dallas Baptist was second, 11 strokes behind at 884 (294).
“We got off to a pretty slow start and were battling back the whole day,” said WWU coach Bo Stephan. “It was frustrating.”
Hansen, who entered the day in third, shot 75 to fall four places into a two-way tie for seventh at 218.
The Vikings’ Jenn Paul fired a 2-under par 69, the team’s best score of the tourney, to move up 10 spots into a three-way tie for 11th at 220.
WWU’s Anna Bourland tied for 22nd at 227 (78), Audrey Orem placed 47th at 239 (80) and Brooke Branigan tied for 56th at 246 (81).
The medalist at 7-under par 206 (68) was Arkansas Tech’s Rebecka Surtevall. She finished seven shots ahead of Tarleton State’s Isabell Jimenez Perea (71=213).
The Vikings next compete at the Dixie State Invitational on Oct. 13-14.
