Forward Elise Aylward scored with just two minutes left in regulation as nationally ranked Western Washington University rallied for a 1-1 tie in overtime with Seattle Pacific University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer game Saturday at Interbay Stadium.
WWU, rated sixth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II Top 25, is now 5-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in GNAC play.
SPU, now 3-0-1 at home, is 3-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference action.
SPU’s Isabell Farrell scored in the 40th minute on a 21-yard shot into the upper left-hand corner following a bad pass by the Vikings. It was Farrell’s fourth goal this season and the first given up by WWU.
Aylward tied the game on a free kick from 22 yards that found the upper left-hand corner. It was her first goal this fall.
WWU had a 17-15 edge in shots, while the Falcons had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
WWU entertains Saint Martin’s University on Saturday, Sept. 20, for a GNAC contest.
