Highlights of 1903

• With $100,000 to spend, Henry Ford founded

• The first coast-to-coast crossing of North America

by car took 65 days.

• The first teddy bear was designed (and named for

President Theodore Roosevelt).

• The first Tour de France bicycle race was held.

• Comedian Bob Hope was born. He died this year.

• William Harley and Arthur Davidson made

available the first production motorcycle that

bears their names.

• Boston beat Pittsburgh in the first modern

World Series.
