The Ski to Sea book sale returns to the Bellingham Public Library on Wednesday, May 20, and provides people a chance to peruse thousands of books, DVDs, CDs and videos to find their summer entertainment.

The Friends of the Bellingham Public Library puts on the annual event, which is its largest book sale of the year, said Kathie Wilson, president of the organization's board.

All proceeds are donated to the library, and help pay for things not included in the library's budget, Wilson said.

The sale begins Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. and continues through Saturday. The prices will be double their marked values on Wednesday but will decrease as the sale continues.

After Wednesday, the sale begins at 10 a.m. and closes at 8, 6 and 3 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Wilson said the sale raised about $8,000 last year, and she said she hopes to match that total this year.

"There's something for everyone," Wilson said. "It's a good time for the community to find a good book for the summer."

Wilson said the items for sale are donated from local residents, the library and Village Books.

With the recession putting the library's budget in a bind, Wilson said the sale is an important boost.

"Things are looking more difficult so we'll step in wherever we can," Wilson said. "We're just always happy to see a lot of the regular people come back and buy books."
