Q: Follow this link: http://www.bellinghamherald.com/102/story/1299365.html
It's a 404 error. And this link is still on Google News. What a huge embarrassment, not for Google, for you, that you kill links when it is still on news search engines.
On the other hand this link, http://www.slate.com/id/1000162/ is still valid after 12 years, and tops the Google search for its topic. Slate never kills links, and it brings them new readers thru old stories.
A: Google picks up feeds from our Local News section. The story in question was mistakenly sent to our Local News section, but in fact is still live on our Web site in the Business section:
http://www.bellinghamherald.com/602/story/1299365.html
FYI, we are in the process of making changes to publishing software that will eliminate this problem. Coming soon!

Q: What happened to the american idol article?
A: Which one? We get feeds from wire services that contain hundreds of stories each day. They only last 2 weeks on our Web site. However, if you're referring to the "Whatcom Idol" story we ran on Jan. 17, you can find it here: http://www.bellinghamherald.com/entertainmentnews/story/1244627.html

Q: There is a picture on the website that I would like to obtain. "Saving as" gives me a low resolution copy. Is it possible to get a higher resolution copy? Thank you so much.
A: We offer prints for sale but do not make high-res electronic copies because it would infringe on our copyright. If you wish to purchase a print, send an e-mail request to newsroom@bellinghamherald.com or call 715-2260.

Q: We are subscribers. I'd like to read previous issues online when we are traveling. I can't find anything like that on the Herald website.
A: We update our Web site throughout the day so do not have daily "editions" because stories can change so frequently. We keep most the most recent stories visible at bellinghamherald.com/localnews and also provide a search function that can access stories, via a keyword, several months after they are posted online.

Q: How do I get rid of all the stuff that moves all over the website? The falling roses and all that kind of useless annoying stuff? Also, is there a way to opt out of having to play whack-a-mole after visiting the site? Seems like I always get several little windows with NetFlix ads and other annoying stuff no one is interested in?
A: Our Web site, like our printed newspaper, is supported in a large part by advertising. The "stuff that moves" is an advertiser's way of getting your attention. If you have complaints about a specific advertisement, contact Sam Aldrich at sam.aldrich@bellinghamherald.com.

Q: Why does the Herald reprint the same articles. Usually the duplication is from a Sunday paper but today - Monday the 28th - a front page article on Cell Signals needing more airwaves (by Joelle Tessler A/P)is repeated on B5. The second article doesn't have the graph but otherwise is identical. To me the reader, this means I am missing out on some other news that could be in that spot. What is the reasoning behind this?
A: I apologize for the duplication. The reason is simple human error. The second editor didn't check what the first editor had done.
