Q: Will my previous question EVER get answered? All I have been trying to get is an answer about how to get unblocked by the "webmaster" and why I was blocked to begin with.

Answered 05/12/08 09:53:28 by Julie Shirley

A: Please email me to discuss your issue outside the forum.

Q: My mother has been a resident of Bellingham since 1937 and reads your paper daily. She is having her 95th birthday on May 19 and wants to have her photo and info in the section titled "Celebration". I have the photo and the info ready to email to you. What do I do next?

Answered 05/12/08 09:51:44 by Julie Shirley

A: You may place your Celebrations announcement online here.

Q: Do I need something specific to view your videos? I tried a couple of times to view the steam whistle video and nothing happened. Not sure if it is something on my computer or from your website.

Answered 05/09/08 13:57:21 by Julie Shirley

A: You need a Flash player to see our videos. You can download one for free here.

Q: Where can I find blogs/comments regarding stories that are a week old? Do you have some kind of Blog Archives?

Answered 05/05/08 09:51:06 by Jim Donaldson

A: You can search for stories in our free archive for 365 days, and comments stay with those stories. Please note: The "counter" on some stories is not always accurate due to a software bug we are pursuing, however, be sure to click on the "comments" link to see if comments have been posted. Comments with blogs also remain with the posts.

Q: Is your Whatcom Life insert available online?

Answered 05/05/08 09:34:18 by Jim Donaldson

A: Yes. You can find the stories at www.bellinghamherald.com/lifestyle

Q: Why do questions submitted not get any sort of reply? Is there a selection process or do only the easy to answer questions get answered? Why even bother having a help link if questions can't even get an "I don't know" for an answer?

Answered 05/05/08 09:31:03 by Jim Donaldson

A: Can you be more specific about which question was not answered? Yes, editors have the option to skip a question, but we use that option sparingly -- usually when a reader makes a comment about our Web site but does not ask a specific question.

Q: I was directed to your newspaper for an obituary appearing 30 May 2005 for Don Ray Slaughter, a relative. It is no longer available and I would like to know how I may see it online. Thank you for your help.

Answered 05/01/08 09:15:58 by Jim Donaldson

A: AMENDED: Obituaries submitted to The Bellingham Herald only remain online for 365 days. They are not accessible in our paid archive service, which includes stories published after June 1, 1999.

Q: I'm holding a physical clipping about the Comics Poll from your paper that says "DEADLINE: April 30, 2008" How can you cut it off by or before the 28th? Isn't that pretty selective use of the ballet box?

Answered 05/01/08 09:00:58 by Jim Donaldson

A: We apologize for not being clear on that. The online poll closed April 28 but we decided to give print subscribers two additional days for the mail to go through.

Q: HOW DO I FIND WHERE ON YOUR WEBSITE I CAN ACCESS THE BELLINGHAM HERALD COMICS POLL?

Answered 04/28/08 09:09:37 by Jim Donaldson

A: The polls have closed -- we are no longer taking submissions for the comics poll.

Q: Where is the commercial rental classified section (offices, storage, etc.) online? It would be nice to have a big, fat link to them. With pictures. And music.

Answered 04/24/08 17:25:55 by Jim Donaldson

A: Commercial rentals are currently listed under the "Find a Rental Home" link on our Classified section. To go there directly, click here FYI, we plan to install a new online classified system at the end of June, which we expect will give us more flexibility in displaying our categories online.
