Health screenings are important for seniors as a preventative tool to head off problems before they become serious. Here are community groups that provide tests, many of them free. Check with your doctor about which screenings should be done.

Falls risk screening clinic. Offered twice a year. Free. St. Joseph Physical Therapy, 788-6420.

Memory awareness screening. Offered monthly on the third Tuesday of the month through November. 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Free. Alzheimer Society of Washington, 671-3316.

Colorectal and prostate health. Annual colorectal cancer awareness campaign in March and prostate health screening in October. Free. St. Joseph Cancer Center, 738-6706.

Cardio, blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose screenings. LifeQuest at St. Joseph Hospital offers several health screening programs including Take Heart cardio screening, vascular-profile screening, glucose fingerstick, blood pressure and fasting cholesterol/glucose. Health screenings. Skagit Valley Hospital offers several health screening programs including skin cancer, vision and glaucoma, cardiovascular risk, stroke and aneurysm, cholesterol and bone density. Details: (360) 428-2424 or go to www.skagitvalleyhospital.org and click on “HealthQuest.”

Stroke risk screenings. Offered throughout the year; locations vary. Cost $109-$129. Life Line Screening, (877) 237-1354.
