BOISE RIVER (TROUT)
Trout fishing is good, and more steelhead are scheduled to be stocked Thursday. Try flies, spinners or salmon eggs. Get away from stocking points to avoid crowds.
Getting there: Fish in Ada County between Barber Dam and Glenwood Bridge.
C.J. STRIKE RESERVOIR (TROUT)
Good trolling for trout and there's also some bank fishing below the dam.
Getting there: Take Interstate 84 to Simco Road, then go left on Grandview Road and right on C.J. Strike Dam cutoff road.
CLEAR LAKE (TROUT)
There are some holdover trout and the lake is scheduled to be restocked later this month. It costs $10 a day to fish there.
Getting there: I-84 east to Exit 157, south on Bob Barton Highway and look for signs to Clear Lake.
CLEARWATER RIVER (STEELHEAD)
River is lower, cooler and more clear than usual for this time of year, which makes some challenging conditions. Use stealth tactics.
Getting there: Take U.S. 95 to the river.
GRANDE RONDE RIVER (STEELHEAD)
Still producing good fishing, but winter weather could hit soon, and access to the river gets more difficult.
Getting there: Hit the river near Troy, Ore. Access it through LaGrande, Ore.
MALAD RIVER(TROUT)
Good fishing for small rainbows. It's mostly spring fed, so it's not heavily affected by cold temperatures.
Getting there: Take I-84 to the Bliss exit and U.S. 30 south to the river.
OWYHEE RIVER (TROUT)
Avoid the spawners on redds, but there still fish rising to dry flies and a few rainbows showing. Don't wade in the riffles.
Getting there: Fish upstream from Adrian, Ore.
SALMON RIVER AT RIGGINS(STEELHEAD)
Fishing has slowed a little as water cools, but it's still good fishing. Try bait or bobbers and jigs.
Getting there: Head north on U.S. 95 to Riggins.
SALMON RIVER AT SALMON (STEELHEAD)
F&G is reporting catches up to the Pahsimeroi. There's lots of water to fish on the upper river, and it tends to be more friendly to bank anglers.
Getting there: From Stanley, take Idaho 75 and U.S. 93 to Salmon.
SNAKE RIVER(STEELHEAD)
The best reports still are coming from the Snake. Fish are stacked below the dam.
Getting there: Take U.S. 95 to Cambridge and Idaho 71 to Hells Canyon Dam.
SOUTH FORK BOISE RIVER(TROUT)
Weather is shaping up for some good baetis hatches, and there's lots of nymph fishing for trout and whites.
Getting there: Take I-84 and U.S. 20 north to Anderson Ranch Dam road.
WILSON SPRINGS PONDS (TROUT)
These ponds are stocked year-round, and you can fish them in cold weather. This is a good place for casual bait anglers.
Getting there: Go South from Nampa on South Powerline Road. Ponds are near F&G's regional office.
