Two Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest trailheads will be closed this winter for improvements.
The Mount Dickerman trailhead parking area closed on Saturday, Sept. 29 and is not expected to reopen until April, according a press release from the National Forest. The trailhead is located on the Mountain Loop Highway at milepost 27.3, east of Granite Falls.
While the trailhead is closed, plans are to increase the parking lot from 20 spaces to 70 to add parking for the Perry Creek trail.
A connector trail will be built from the Perry Creek Trail to the Dickerman trailhead, and when construction is finished the Perry Creek Road will be closed, according to the release.
Also closing on Oct. 13 will the the Lake 22 trailhead parking area. The parking are, which is located at milepost 13.2 on the Mountain Loop Highway, east of Granite Falls, is expected to remain closed until the end of the year, according to the press release.
The parking lot will be expanded from 30 to 48 spaces and get new toilets and signs.
Some parking will be available across the highway in the nearby Hemple Creek picnic area.
