The League of Women Voters commends The Bellingham Herald for the Volunteer View series focusing on the wealth of good things happening in our county and we extend our thanks to all of the non-profit organizations and services where volunteers are working to make a difference. This year the league completed a study on women’s economic security and as a result we are highly cognizant of the important role that these organizations fill to help the 25,000 women and their families who are living on the brink of poverty in Whatcom County. The needs are great, but this community can step up to the challenges. We can take pride that Americans are so willing to volunteer their time and energies when they see a need. Whatcom County is rich when it comes to people with a good heart who want to help out. Thank you for publicizing the valuable services being done by many organizations who are working to improve the quality of life in our community. Thank you for letting the public know how they can get involved to offer their talents and resources.
