There has been much discussion on the transportation of coal and oil by rail. It will create some needed jobs, but at what cost? The coal is dirty and the oil has the potential of causing a catastrophic accident. Also, the long and frequent trains will interrupt communities along the route.
However, there is another more major aspect to consider and that is the exporting of irreplaceable national resources on which our country so depends. In an effort to conserve oil, laws have been enacted to increase car mileage and promote use of electric vehicles. Exporting oil to China makes little sense to me.
Until a method is developed to cleanly burn coal, I believe China will likely decide to limit its importation causing a loss of jobs in this country.
Also, we need to address the question of who has the rights to the country's energy resources. Is it a few individuals wanting immediate profits or should we be looking more towards leaving something for future generations?
