Now is the time to say good bye to the view of Bellingham Bay from Fairhaven Village Green. It was still peeking through the studding of the building being built by the Shannons next to their Village Inn, but it will be gone when the sheathing goes on.
I and numerous others opposed this building and its variance during informative meetings, planning department meetings and planning commission meetings, on the grounds that it would be contrary to the ambiance of Fairhaven. However, given what I believe to be the pro-development and pro-developer attitude of the planning department, its construction was a foregone conclusion. Department members stated that only a few residences would have their views obstructed, but they ignored public views. We can expect more of this kind of thing as a result of the co-opting of the Fairhaven Neighborhood Plan into the Fairhaven Urban Village Plan.
